The King Charles III Orchard
In December 2023, we started planting the trees and hedgerow for our school orchard.
Thank you to our parent volunteers who came along to help plant the new trees for our apple orchard.
Children in Sapphire and Emerald class had a wonderful time, mixing compost, digging holes and watering the new trees.
The orchard has been planted to celebrate the year of the Coronation of his Royal Highness, King Charles III.
The orchard and the surrounding hedgerow will give pupils the opportunity to learn about both the natural world and growing food, as well as creating an additional outdoor learning space and a place for quiet contemplation.
The apple trees and hedgerow will create a natural habitat that will increase the biodiversity in the school grounds, attracting a wide variety of insects, which in turn support a wide variety of wild birds and animals. They will also improve the air quality and help to mitigate floods and drought.
We are looking forward to watching the trees and hedgerows grow.
